Teen rescued after ‘playing around’ rain swollen creek and falling in

COLUMBUS, Ind. — A teenager was rescued by Bartholomew County Sheriff water rescue team members and Columbus Township firefighters after he reportedly was playing around a flooded Clifty Creek and was swept down with the current.

The rescue Monday night involved using rescue boats to get the teen out of the water.

Sheriff Matt Myers warned that everyone needs to stay out of the rain-swollen local rivers and creeks right now due to high water and dangerous currents. He warned that entering the water carries the danger of being caught on trees and other debris below the surface that could result in drowning as the current pulls people under.

“We are very fortunate we didn’t lose anyone in this incident,” Myers said.
