Designs from two Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. students have been selected as the winners for the Mill Race Marathon Art Contest, with their artwork to be used for the official marathon poster and the Kids Fun Run T-shirt.
Artwork from Hazel Kelly, a third grader at CSA Lincoln, was selected for the Kids Fun Run T-shirt design. She will receive a $50 gift certificate and her teacher is being awarded $200 to purchase school supplies for students.
The winning artwork will be placed on approximately 1,000 shirts of the Kids Fun Run participants, who are from area schools in and around Bartholomew County. The Kids Fund Run is planned for Sept 24 in Mill Race Park in Columbus.
Jianing Wang, a freshman at Columbus North High School, is the youngest winner of the poster contest in the past nine years, working with teacher Jeff Metz, the judges said.
He will receive a $500 Mill Race Marathon Scholarship check and will have his artwork serve as the official race poster for 2021.
Registered participants will have their names printed on the poster and it will be for sale at the Mill Race Marathon Expo (Sept 24) and through various other marathon-related events.
David Venable, a volunteer with the marathon, said the judging team was challenged again this year as there were many outstanding entries from talented students.
"We also recognize all the other entries from the talented students that displayed their creativity and capabilities as we focused on not only energy and excitement of the event in Columbus, but also celebrating the bicentennial of Bartholomew County," Venable said.
Judges were from key sponsors for the marathon including Columbus Regional Hospital Healthy Communities, German American Bank, Cummins, Dorel, BCSC and Columbus North’s C4 program as well as Laurie Wright Studio and Framing.
