Franklin College recognizes local students
FRANKLIN — Franklin College honored its students in late April for their exceptional scholarly efforts during the 2020-21 academic year with merit awards and scholarships.
The annual Spring Honors Convocation was held in two parts this year in keeping with COVID-19 guidelines.
The following local students were honored:
James L. Bailey-Smith, son of Tammy Smith of Columbus, received the Biology Outstanding Upperclassmen with Potential to Pursue Graduate Work Award.
Anissa C. Edwards, daughter of Travis and Alison Edwards of Columbus, received the Tracy French Award for Modern Languages.
Allison P. Gootee, of Columbus, received the Ross G. and Pauline Devore Crump Endowed Scholarship.
Jordan L. Johnson, son of Larry and Shauncee Johnson of Columbus, received the Botts Chemistry Scholarship and the Professor Charles A. Deppe Endowed Scholarship for pre-med students.
Leanne Powell of Columbus, received the Blue Key Dramatic Trophy for Theatre.
Local students make SNHU president’s list
Southern New Hampshire University recently named students to its winter 2021 president’s list.
Full-time students who have earned a minimum grade-point average of 3.700 and above are named to the president’s list.
Local students on the list include:

Jeffrey Henson of Hope
James Smith of North Vernon
Brandi Deiser of North Vernon
Christopher Riehl of Nashville
Locals receive honors from Trine University
Several local students were named to Trine University’s president’s and dean’s lists for the spring 2021 semester.
To earn president’s list honors, students must complete a minimum of 12 hours and have a grade point average of 3.750-4.0.
Local students earning president’s list honors include:
Abigail DeCamp of North Vernon, majoring in computer engineering
Avery Larson of Columbus, majoring in exercise science
John Martin of Edinburgh, majoring in organizational leadership
Neil O’Brien of Columbus, majoring in mechanical engineering
Noah Swift of Edinburgh, majoring in communication
Bernard Woon of Columbus, majoring in mechanical engineering
Shaunak Deshmukh of Columbus earned dean’s list recognition for the spring 2021 term. Deshmukh is majoring in mechanical engineering. To earn dean’s list honors, Trine students must complete a minimum of 12 hours and have a grade point average of 3.500-3.749.
