Man accused on multiple charges after fleeing from police

Columbus police officers arrested a local man Thursday evening on multiple charges after he was accused of fleeing on foot from law enforcement officers in an attempt to evade arrest.

At approximately 7:15 p.m., CPD officers observed a man attempting to hide behind a trash can in the 1200 block of Eighth Street, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

When the officer exited his patrol car, the man, who was later identified as Craig A. Pike, 51, of 2823 Doup Drive, began fleeing on foot. The officer relocated the man near Eighth and Reed streets where he confirmed a warrant for Pike’s arrest, Harris said.

Officers searched Pike’s backpack and located drugs and drug paraphernalia inside, Harris said.

Pike was transported to the Bartholomew County Jail on preliminary charges of:

  • Bartholomew County warrant
  • Resisting law enforcement
  • Possession of methamphetamine
  • Possession of marijuana
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia

Pike’s bond was set at $10,000 bond, and has since been released from the jail, jail officials said.
