Fire causes damage to one room in Iroquois Trail home

COLUMBUS, Ind. — Columbus firefighters were sent to 2064 Iroquois Trail at 1:38 p.m. Tuesday after the homeowner reported smoke inside the residence.

When firefighters arrived, the homeowner said she had been working outside and when she went inside, found smoke.

Firefighters entered the residence and confirmed heavy smoke but no visible fire, said Capt. Mike Wilson, Columbus Fire Department spokesman.

As firefighters searched the home they came to a closed bedroom door. Firefighters opened the bedroom door and found flames inside the room, which they extinguished.

The fire was contained to the room with minor smoke damage in the rest of the home, Wilson said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damages are estimated at approximately $5,000. No injuries were reported, Wilson said.
