Born in Helmsburg, IN on February 27, 1927 to Arthur and Verna Tracy, she grew up in Helmsburg and lived all of her adult life in Columbus, IN in the home that she and her husband built together. Vera married Basil Roscoe Brummet on April 9, 1948.
Vera worked at Camp Atterbury in medical records during both WWII and the Korean War. After the birth of their daughter, Shauna, in 1955 Vera was a fulltime homemaker and mother. Vera and Basil, married 72 years, enjoyed their 29 winters in Sarasota, FL where they lived in Park East Club. They were a fixture of the park, participating in the weekly Saturday breakfast get-togethers, programs and events. Visiting Siesta Key Beach with Basil, feeding the seagulls, and traveling around Florida were highlights for the two of them. They enjoyed several cruises in the Caribbean, to Hawaii, and to Alaska in 2000 with their daughter and son-in-law. The next year they all made a wonderful trip to London and Paris.
Vera was a member of the East Columbus United Methodist Church and Fidelis Bible class.
Vera and Basil enjoyed square dancing in Columbus and Sarasota. Vera crocheted lovely afghans, did crosswords, and loved to read biographies. They loved their daughter’s and son-in-law’s Samoyed dogs and alpacas, attending many dog and alpaca shows together. Vera and Basil were known for taking walks holding hands and for helping each other through all of life’s ups and downs. They made many friends everywhere they went.
