A Sixth Street Arts Alley project has been moved back to October, the Columbus Area Arts Council said.
Originally, the arts council asked for approval and received it for a special use of right-of way request to install the mural from Aug. 12 to Aug. 17. Arts council’s executive director, Kathryn Armstrong said there has been a change in the project timeline and the mural will instead be done in October.
According to the council’s request, sent in by Priscilla Rocha, the work includes street cleaning and time for the mural to dry.
The arts council has been active in developing Sixth Street as a “creative hub and budding arts alley.”
“With close proximity to art and cultural organizations and local businesses, this urban activation project is shaping Sixth Street into a dynamic space for programs and community activities at the heart of the city,” the project description states.
More information about the Sixth Street Arts Alley project, including links for donations, volunteer sign-ups and a survey, is available at artsincolumbus.org/6th-street-arts-alley. Information is also posted on the exterior of the 411 Gallery, which can be found at 411 Sixth St., along the same road where the project will be located.
Landscape, Art & Architecture (LAA) Office is the design team for the project, and renderings are available at laaoffice.com.
The Columbus Area Visitors Center has also been involved with the arts alley project.
The project is supported by the City of Columbus, the Indiana Arts Commission’s Cultural District program, CREA LLC, First Financial Bank, the Heritage Fund, the Indiana University Presidential Arts and Humanities Program and individual contributions from the community.
