East opens with win

Columbus East opened its season Tuesday with a 25-13, 25-10, 25-15 win against Bloomington North.

Caroline Frost pounded 11 kills, Katy Jordan rrecorded 42 assists, Gabby Dean had seven solo and two assist blocks, Whitehead and Chloe Gilley each notched five digs and Cadence Gilley served seven aces to lead the Olympians.

Dean and Reece Whitehead each added 10 kills. Libby Dippold had three solo and two assist blocks, and Kenzie Foster served two aces.

Columbus Christian falls

INDIANAPOLIS — Columbus Christian went on the road and fell 25-11, 25-5, 25-3 at Suburban Christian.

Anika Jenkins led the Crusaders (0-2) with one solo block, one assist block and two digs. Natalie Sanders pounded two kills, Kaylee Oliphant added on kill and Emma Sewell had three assists.

Eagles best Lancers

EDINBURGH — Edinburgh won the second set, but Jac-Cen-Del prevailed in the other three to claim a 25-23, 18-25, 25-23, 25-21 victory.

MacKenzie Bieker led the Lancers (2-2) with eight blocks and 19 digs. Gracie Crawhorn pounded 14 kills, Kyah Streeval recorded 29 assists and Jessica Walsh served seven aces.

Crawhorn added four blocks, 12 digs and one ace, and Walsh had seven kills and eight digs. Alyssa Funkhouser notched 10 digs, Zoey Sida tallied five kills and seven digs, Bieker added three kils and two aces and Streeval had one block, four digs and one ace.

Pioneers top Trinity

SEYMOUR — Class 4A No. 6 Providence won a showdown of ranked teams, handing Class A No. 2 Trinity Lutheran a 26-25, 23-25, 25-20, 25-22 defeat.

Stella Kleffman led the Cougars (1-1) with 16 digs and five aces. Ruthie Bingham pounded 18 kills, Addison Darlage recorded 43 assists and Bailey Tabeling had four assist blocks.

Also for Trinity, Tabeling notched 15 kills, and Kleffman added nine kills. Bingham had two assist blocks and 10 digs, Kamzi Gross added 14 digs and Laura Roeder served four aces.

North falls to Batesville

BATESVILLE — No. 18 Columbus North fell to No. 14 Batesville 154-177 at Hillcrest Country Club.

Gwen Anderson led the Bull Dogs with a 40. Ritisha Rashmil carded a 45, Ella Wilks and Macy Euler each shot 46, Erin Hopkins added a 47, Reese Euler had a 52, Nettie Meeks finished with a 61 and Lindsey Hartwell had a 63.

Panthers take third

SEYMOUR — Jennings County finished third in a tri match at Shadowood. Bedford North Lawrence won with a 172 to 184 for Seymour and 188 for the Panthers.

Sophia Curry tied for medalist honors with a 40 to lead Jennings. Alexis Carson carded a 43, Emma Jones added a 51, Emma Kirchner shot 54 and Lauren Galvan had a 55.

Jets drop opener

HANOVER — Hauser opened its season with a 7-1 loss at Southwestern (Hanover).

Evan Jacobs scored the goal for the Jets off an assist from Ethan House. Luke Bruner recorded 10 saves, and Will Walters added three saves.

Suburban tops Crusaders

Columbus Christian saw its season begin with a 9-1 loss to Suburban Christian.

Joel Flint scored off an assist by Isaac Ridder for the Crusaders, who were outshot 25-2. Aaron Sewell recorded 12 saves, and Cody Kiefer added four saves.

GCA topples Trinity

GREENWOOD — Trinity Lutheran got two goals from Connor Sims, but dropped its season opener 7-3 at Greenwood Christian Academy.

Drew Kerkhof added a goal, and Andrew Lemming had an assist for the Cougars. Braden Stokleman posted six saves.

Golden Bears beat Jets

HOPE — Hauser won a third-set supertiebreaker at No. 1 doubles, but that was all in a 4-1 season-opening loss to Shelbyville.

Eli Miller and Levi Gollmer beat Ian Blackketter and Karson Schaf 7-6 (4), 4-6, (10-4) at No. 1 doubles for the Jets.

Hauser’s Sam Miller fell to Aiden Asher 6-0, 6-4 at No. 1 singles, and Caleb Wallace lost to Caden Tackett 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2 singles and Hagan Wiedersatz fell to Logan Prickett 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles. Carson Rose and Jayden Blair lost to Connor Zobel and Layne Pogue 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2 doubles.

Panthers down Braves

BROWNSTOWN — Jennings County picked up its second win in as many nights, a 4-1 triumph at Brownstown Central.

Owen Law blanked Ethan Davis 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, and Alex Leach downed Smith Hackman 7-5, 6-0 at No. 3 singles for the Panthers (2-0). Jacob Vogel and Justin Ramey topped Bryce Reaser and Connor Gwin 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles, and Greyson Jackson and Ryan Schuck defeated Ethan Garland and Grant Elliott 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.

Jennings’ Jansen McDonald fell to Pierson Wheeler 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2 singles.

Artesians edge Eagles

MARTINSVILLE — Brown County won two third-set supertiebreakers, but had to forfeit No. 2 doubles and injury default at No. 3 singles in a season-opening 3-2 defeat.

Josh Miller beat Nate Viewegh 6-3, 5-7, (10-8) at No. 1 singles, and Jon Kirchoffer and Owen East won 6-3, 6-7 (5), (10-6) at No. 1 doubles for the Eagles. Austen Deckard fell to Aiden O’Connor 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles, and Trevor Shields had to retire at No. 3 singles.
