NASHVILLE — Columbus North’s girls and Brown County’s boys came away with the team titles in Wednesday’s Brown County Invitational.
The Bull Dogs and Columbus East, who were competing in their season openers, were the only two girls squads to score as a team in the meet that featured each runner on two-person teams running 2,500 meters. North had a perfect six points to 24 for the Olympians.
Jessica Meza and Sydney Morlok won the race in 18 minutes, 54.8 seconds for the Bull Dogs. Abby Jacobi and Ellen White took second in 19:17.1, while Alyssa Green and Kenzie Meyer were third in 19:40.0, Kyleigh Wolf and Claire Wisler fourth in 20:06.2 and Sierra Newell and Charley Kerber sixth in 20:31.3.
Carly Otte and Chloe Krueger led East with a sixth-place finish in 20:31.3. Olivia Shoaf and Laurel Knight took ninth in 21:06.2, and Victoria Cuduhar and Jordan Spurgeon were 12th in 22:04.1.
Brown County’s only duo, Hadley Gradolf and Livie Austin, finished 16th in 22:37.0.
In the boys meet, Brown County, New Albany and Martinsville all scored 19 points, but the Eagles won the tiebreaker as the only one of those schools with a fourth two-person team. Columbus East and Silver Creek each scored 33, with the Olympians taking fourth because the Dragons did not have a fourth unit.
Brown County’s Rhett Silbaugh and Chase Austin finished second in 16:33.2. Waylon Patrick and Charlie Webb took fifth in 18:04.0, and Will Hiatt and Corbin Brahaum were 12th in 20:11.8.
Jackson Brookes and Ervin Briseno led the Olympians with an eighth-place finish in 18:51.0. Derek Patchett and Cayden Lynott took ninth in 19:41.2, and Parker Hammack and Zeke Weatherford were 16th in 23:43.

East opens with win
BLOOMINGTON — Columbus East opened its season with a 1-0 victory at Bloomington North.
Nadia Harris scored the game’s lone goal unassisted in the 54th minute.
The Olympians outshot the Cougars 7-1. Anna Liimatta played the first 60 minutes in goal and recorded one save, and Kate Stiles played the last 20 minutes to preserve the shutout.

East downs Woodmen
Carter Gant tied for medalist honors with a 41 to lead Columbus East to a 176-201 win against Greenwood at Otter Creek.
Katie Hong carded a 44 for the Olympians. Cristen Martinez added a 45, Harley Gant and Peyton Meier each shot 46 and Lilly Steinwedel had a 50.
Braves top Lancers
TRAFALGAR — Indian Creek slipped past Edinburgh 223-228 at Tameka Woods.
Izzy Richardson led the Lancers with a 54. Hannah Pile carded a 55, Macie Blandford added a 56, Jillian Turner shot 63, Ciera Myers had a 65, Gracie Myers finished with a 66 and Cloee Britton had a 67.

Floyd sweeps Jennings
FLOYDS KNOBS — Floyd Central handed Jennings County its first loss of the season, a 25-18, 25-19, 25-13 defeat.
Charlee Barlow pounded 7 kills, and Alivia Elmore added five kills and 33 digs for the Panthers (1-1, 0-1). Lydia Roth recorded 28 digs.

Braves blank Eagles
TRAFALGAR — Indian Creek won all five matches in straight sets in a 5-0 Western Indiana Conference win against Brown County.
Josh Miller fell to Aiden Pemberton 6-4, 7-6 (2) at No. 1 singles, Austen Deckard lost to Brendan Conner 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and Jack Sichting fell to Trent Volz 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles for the Eagles (0-2, 0-1).
Brown County’s Jon Kirchoffer and Owen East lost to Cole Allison and Landon Sichting 6-0, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles. Wesley Bethards and Trevor Shields fell to Cass Mitchell and Peyton Strunks 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.
