After Ella Wilks outdrove Gwen Anderson by a couple of feet on No. 9 at Otter Creek Tuesday, Anderson put her chip shot within a foot of the pin.
“Beat that,” Anderson chimed to Wilks.
So Wilks stepped up and put her chip within an inch of the hole. Both seniors tapped in for birdie, and they ended up leading Columbus North to a 163-179 against Columbus East on senior night for both teams.
“I’m pretty happy with the way I played today,” Anderson said. “I had a lot of fun playing with (East’s) Harley and Carter (Gant) and Ella. We have fun together, and we’re all pretty competitive.”
Anderson won medalist honors with an even-par 36. She had three birdies and three bogeys for the day.
A day earlier, she was medalist with a 2-over 74 in leading the co-No. 19 Bull Dogs to the Conference Indiana title at Timbergate.
“I do think I played better than I did (Monday),” Anderson said. “I think I played the wind a lot better, and I think I adjusted to the greens the course better than I did (Monday).”
Wilks finished with a 39 on Tuesday. North’s other senior, Macy Euler, shot 44, as did Ritisha Rashmil. Erin Hopkins added a 54, and Lindsey Hartwell had a 56.
“I’m happy with the way they played,” North coach Scott Seavers said. “They came out with the confidence and executed their game plan.”
Carter Gant led the Olympians with a 41. Harley Gant carded a 42.
Harley Gant was honored before the match, along with fellow seniors Peyton Meier, Cristen Martinez and Savannah Wells.
“It was senior night for all of us seniors, so there was a little bit added pressure,” Harley Gant said. “But we all played the best we could have played, and we gave it our all. We definitely could have done better, but just for how it was tonight, I think we did pretty good.”
Lilly Steinwedel added a 47, and Martinez rounded out the East scoring with a 49. Meier and Katie Hong each shot 50.
“The tees were back on a few holes today, so I thought that was a good score for Lilly,” East coach Kylie Weichman said. “Carter Gant has been solid for us all year. She’s playing with a very sore shoulder. It popped (Monday) on the last hole at conference, and she saw Dr. Guse today and got some treatment on it, and we’re going to be nursing her back to full strength hopefully by Monday.”
The Olympians were coming off a third-place finish in Monday’s Hoosier Hills Conference Tournament at Shadowood. Tuesday’s match was the regular-season finale for both teams, who both will play in the Bloomington North Sectional Monday at Cascades Golf Course.
“That’s among one of our highest nine-hole scores this season,” Weichman said. “We have to get mentally tough. When we see Columbus North, and we play Columbus North, we somehow just get out of our groove, and we worry about who we’re playing against versus playing against ourselves and playing against the course.”
