North opens with loss
FISHERS — Columbus North opened its season Tuesday night with a 72-52 loss at Hamilton Southeastern.
The Royals, who are ranked No. 18 in the preseason Indiana Basketball Coaches Association one-class poll, jumped out to a 20-9 lead after one quarter. HSE led 31-21 at halftime.
Lauren Barker led the Bull Dogs with 15 points. Kylah Lawson scored 12, and Kennedy Horn added eight.
Panthers top Warriors
SCOTTSBURG — Jennings County ran out to a 23-6 lead after one quarter and cruised from there to a season-opening 62-48 win at Scottsburg.
Alivia Elmore led the Panthers with 21 points. Lily Ernstes scored 11, while Megan Vogel had 10 and Juliann Woodard added eight.
Cougars down Indians
GREENSBURG — South Decatur jumped out to a 21-9 halftime lead and went on to post a season-opening 44-33 win against Milan.
Kiley Best led the Cougars with 16 points. Loryn Pate added nine.
Eagles fall to Bears
NASHVILLE — Brown County led by one at halftime, but Shelbyville rallied for a 47-36 season-opening win.
Abigail Watson led the Eagles with nine points and 16 rebounds.
