Let Us Pause To Honor the Memory of

Mr. Vernon Lee Wynn

Mr. Vernon Lee Wynn, age 91, of Deputy, Indiana entered this life on January 24, 1930 in Deputy, Indiana. He was the loving son of the late William Elisha and Margaret Ellen Dooley Wynn. He was a lifelong resident of the Deputy area and graduated from Deputy High School in 1948. Vernon then earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Social Studies from Hanover College in 1952 and later his Master’s Degree from Indiana University. He was inducted into the United States Navy on July 30, 1948 in Jefferson County, Indiana. He rose to the rate of Seaman and served aboard the U.S.S. Kearsarge (CV-33). He was honorably discharged on July 29, 1949 at Great Lakes, Illinois and then served in the reserves until being honorably discharged on July 29, 1954. He was united in marriage to Betty Jane Smith on August 15, 1954.This happy union of nearly fifty-six years was blessed with a daughter, Sue Ellen and sons, Larry and Mark. He was a teacher of Government and History for forty years with the Madison Consolidated School Corporation. He also taught and coached basketball at Deputy for five years and Madison Junior High School for two years. He and Betty owned and operated the Wynn Dairy Queen in Madison, Indiana from1966-1979. He also farmed on the family farm for his entire life in Deputy, Indiana. Vernon was a big supporter of 4-H and served one term on the fair board where he was in charge of the auction. He received a certificate of recognition and was awarded county honors in the National 4-H Alumni Recognition Program. He was a member of the Deputy United Methodist Church. He enjoyed sports and spending time with his family. Vernon died on Tuesday, November 2, 2021, at 4:00 p.m. at the Willow Crossing Health and Rehabilitation in Columbus, Indiana.

A LOVING FAMILY

Vernon will be missed by his loving sons, Larry Wynn and his wife Gale of Madison, Indiana, Mark Wynn and his wife Melissa of Madison, Indiana; his loving daughter, Sue Ellen Brown and her husband Glen of Columbus, Indiana; his loving grandchildren, Derek Wynn (Brooke), Abigale “Abbi” Wynn Mullins (Blake), Emma Wynn, Reagan Wynn, Rachel Brown Kimmel (Konnor) and Daniel Brown; his adoring great grandchildren, Sutton Wynn, Knox Wynn; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his father, William Elisha Wynn, died January 31, 1959, his mother, Margaret Ellen Dooley Wynn, died January 18, 1963, his brothers, William David Wynn, died May 29, 1919, Jesse Warren Wynn, died December 23, 2006, James Elkanah Wynn, died October 29, 2003, and Donald Calvin Wynn, died February 22, 2007, his sisters, Martha Lucille Wynn McKinley, died May 31, 2005 and Ruby Mae Wynn Craig, died January 19, 1998, and his beloved wife, Betty Jane Smith Wynn, died July 15, 2010.

FUNERAL CEREMONY

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at 11:00 a.m., by Pastor Doug Wallace at the Morgan &Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana. Interment will follow in the Pisgah Cemetery in Deputy, Indiana.

VISITATION

Friends may visit Monday from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the Morgan &Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana.

MILITARY HONORS

A final salute with military honors will be provided by the Major Samuel Woodfill Post No. 9 of the American Legion and the U.S. Naval Great Lakes Ceremonial Unit.
