North Vernon police make arrest in stolen vehicle case

NORTH VERNON, Ind. — North Vernon police have made an arrest in a stolen vehicle case in Seymour.

At 11 p.m. Saturday, North Vernon police located and recovered a red 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup that had been reported stolen earlier in the day from a Seymour business, police said.

The officers were also able to recover a 12-gauge shotgun that was in the vehicle at the time of theft.

Officer Adam Jackson spotted a truck matching the description of the stolen truck at the Casey’s General Store gas station at State Road 7 and Highway 50. He was able to verify the license plate matched the stolen vehicle and initiated a traffic stop at an apartment complex at State Road 7 and County Road 300N. Officer Adam Driver had arrived to assist with the stop.
Robert A. Jackson, 29, of North Vernon, was arrested as the driver of the stolen
vehicle. The investigation revealed a shotgun was also in the vehicle that had been in
the vehicle at the time it was stolen. Officers also located drug paraphernalia related to use
of methamphetamine in Jackson’s possession, police said.

Three passengers were interviewed and released after the traffic stop and the vehicle and firearm were recovered to be released back to the owner.

Jackson was arrested and transported to the Jennings County Jail on preliminary charges of:

1. Possession of a stolen vehicle level 6 felony
2. Possession of stolen property (firearm) level 6 felony
3. Possession of a firearm by convicted felon level 6 felony
4. Possession of methamphetamine level 6 felony
5. Possession of drug paraphernalia A misdemeanor
6. Driving while suspended with a prior conviction A misdemeanor
Deputies with the Jennings County sheriff’s Department assisted at the scene.
