Philip J. Speier, 68, of Columbus passed from this life on Wednesday, December 15, 2021, at 2:28 p.m. at Columbus Regional Hospital.

Mr. Speier was born on August 16, 1953, in Cincinnati, Ohio the son of John J. and Ruth Rester Speier. On April 19, 2003, he married Kathleen M. Prybelski.

Mr. Speier retired after 42 years from Batesville Casket Company where he was an over-the-road truck driver and was a member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church and the Central Indiana Woodworkers where they made toys for children. He enjoyed volunteering and working on the restoration of Project Charlie 119 at Atterbury-Bakalar Air Museum. Mr. Speier always enjoyed snow skiing, water skiing, riding bicycles, going boating, restoring cars, golfing, traveling, going to sporting events, being outdoors and hunting.

Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Kathleen M. Speier of Columbus; children, Heather (J.B.) Showalter of Westfield and Crystal (Craig Stutler) Speier of Greenwood; grandchildren, Ava, Jaelyn, Madden (girl), Madden (boy), Beckham, Jocelyn, Carrigan, and Grayson; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Kenneth and Bonita Prybelski; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Carol (Gary) Fry and Michael (Kerry) Prybelski.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John J. and Ruth Rester Speier and a brother, John Jacob Speier.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. at Barkes, Weaver &Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Father Clem Davis officiating.

Family and friends may call for visitation from 3:00 p.m. till time of service on Wednesday at the funeral home.

In keeping with Mr. Speier’s wishes cremation will take place following the funeral service.

Memorial contributions may be given through the funeral home to the Central Indiana Woodworkers Association or Project Charlie 119 at Atterbury-Bakalar Air Museum.
