COLUMBUS
Michael Lee “Mike” Johnson, 78, of Columbus, passed away at 10:25 a.m. Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at Schneck Medical Center in Seymour.
Mike was born December 16, 1943, in Columbus, Indiana, the son of Rice W. and Edna Scelf Johnson.
Mr. Johnson served in the United States Army for nine months during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged after his service. He retired from Cummins Engine Company after 30 years where he worked in many different areas of the company. Mike loved fox hunting with his brothers and attending dirt track races where camping and spending time with family went hand in hand.
Survivors include his sons, Joe (Cindy) Johnson of North Vernon, Chris (Shelly) Johnson of Seymour; grandchildren, Whitney Plumm, Brittany Sutton, Brianna Wilson, Hannah Johnson; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Evelyn Nichalson of Whiteland, Wanda (Dan) Royer of California; sister-in-law, Margie Johnson also of Seymour; brother-in-law, Ronald Blaker of Florida; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 10 brothers and sisters.
The funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday at Barkes, Weaver &Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Virgil Clotfelter officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday at the funeral home. A live stream of the funeral service may be viewed at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday at barkesweaverglick.com.
Burial will be at Mt. Healthy Cemetery. Military honors will be presented by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard.
