Susan Lynne Simpson (nee Dennison), 85, of Mockernut Ct., Columbus, IN passed away at 3:23am Saturday, January 1, 2022, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.

Born in Clarksburg, WV April 24, 1936, Susan was the daughter of Dr. Durward J. and Violet Kyle Dennison. She married Ray Simpson on March 8, 1986. He preceded her in death on July 18, 2014.

After graduating in 1954 from Washington Irving High School in Clarksburg, she earned her X-ray technician license/degree through West Virginia University and St. Mary’s hospital in Morgantown, WV. Susan spent many years working in X-ray in Morgantown, then Denver, CO, and later at Bartholomew County Hospital in Columbus.

In 1984, Susan switched careers and earned her real estate license. She worked for Coldwell Banker as Relocation Director, earning the Solid Service and Circle of Honor Awards. In 1990 she joined RE/MAX, earning several Club awards, the Hall of Fame award in 2003, and the Lifetime Award for the Columbus Board of Realtors in 2013, all before retiring in January of 2020.

Susan was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. Susan loved being close to water and enjoyed vacationing at the beaches of Hilton Head, SC and Naples, FL. She also spent many summers boating with her husband and friends at Monroe Reservoir. She was an excellent cook and for many years loved taking classes at the former Cooks and Company in Columbus. She enjoyed sports, especially IU and the Colts, but most importantly treasured watching her grandchildren participate in their athletic and 4H horse show events.

Susan is survived by her family including her children, James Shobe (Julie McMorrow) of Indianapolis, Kimberly (Edward) Pence, and Michael (Cindy) Shobe of Carmel; stepson, Eric (Sandy) Simpson, of Greenwood, and stepdaughter Kelly (Kurt) Schwarze. Susan adored her grandchildren Zak (Amy) Shobe, Jessica (Jon) Fisher, John Doll, Jacqueline (J.J.) Costello, Kelsey (Grant) Russo, Emma Pence, Abby (Doug) Farren, Sam Shobe, and step-grandchildren Eric II, Johnathan, Reis, and Dominic Simpson, and Tucker Schwarze. She was also delighted to have 12 great-grandchildren including Max, Ari and Ziggy Shobe, Andrew Fisher, Sydney Doll, Olivia and Lucy Costello, Liam, Henry and Edward Russo, and arriving this week, baby Farren. She is also survived by her brother Brian (Sharon) Dennison and many special nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Thomas Dennison, brother-in law and sister Dr. Minter and Judy Chapman, all of whom she missed every day.

The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday January 5, 2022, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church with Reverend Mark Teike officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until time of service in the narthex of the church. A live stream of the funeral service may be viewed at the church website, http://stpeterscolumbus.org/. Private burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery. Susan will be dearly missed especially by her family and her many friends, but the memories of her kind, gentle, and compassionate nature will remain.
