COLUMBUS
Harold Eugene Hoover, Sr. of Columbus, passed to Heaven on January 28, 2022. He was born June 12, 1945, in Columbus to Harley and Edell Pittman Hoover, where he spent his youth before joining the Army for a tour in Thailand. He was a Vietnam-era veteran, returning home in 1967. After being discharged from the Army, Harold met and married Barbara Worton, whom he loved until her death in 2018. Harold loved his family and spent his last years doting upon his children and grandchildren. His leaving has left us with grieving hearts, as he will be missed every day for the rest of our lives. His family and friends are forever blessed with memories of his kindness, love and counsel.
Harold is survived by his son Harold Hoover, Jr.; a stepson, Ray Worton; a grandson Josh Brockman; sisters Mary Burton, Ruth Walls, Esther Lawles, Norma Begley, and Pat Whittington all of Columbus, Ruby Coddington of Barstow, California, and Margaret Powers of Mesa, Arizona; as well as a brother Roy Hoover of Golden Valley, Arizona.
He was predeceased by his parents; his wife Barbara; a sister Betty Evans, and brothers James and Carl Hoover.
The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday February 2, 2022 at the Jewell – Rittman Family Funeral Home officiated by Rev. Jerry Ballard. A Military Graveside Service will be performed by the Bartholomew County Veteran’s Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday February 1, 2022, and one hour prior to the service Wednesday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bartholomew County Veteran’s Honor Guard.
