COLUMBUS
Bill McCaa beloved father, husband, teacher, coach and friend passed from this life on February 6. 2022 at 1:22 a.m. at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana with his family by his side.
He was born on December 8, 1945, in Leesville, Louisiana. He spent his early childhood playing in the piney woods of Louisiana before moving to Blue Island, Illinois where he met his wife Kathy at Eisenhower High School. Bill attended Indiana University on a football scholarship and was a member of the 1967 Big Ten Championship Team which represented the Rose Bowl.
Bill majored in Biology while at Indiana University and married Kathy his senior year. After his graduation they moved to Columbus, Indiana where he taught biology and became the head football coach at Columbus North. They welcomed two daughters, Karen in 1970 and Amy in 1973- his girls were the light of his life.
During Bill’s many years of service at Columbus North he served as head football coach for 18 years, biology teacher, dean, assistant principal, and principal. He touched countless lives during this time and was a light to so many people from all walks of life. Upon retirement from North, Bill continued to inspire through teaching Human Anatomy and physiology at Pleasure Ridge Academy in Louisville, Kentucky and was named to their teaching Hall of Fame.
Bill was a gifted communicator and had a passion for lifting others as well as a deep love for nature, animals and the beauty of a sunrise. His legacy cannot be measured in words, but it will live on through the countless lives he has touched. His presence was unforgettable and so is he.
His survivors include his wife, Kathy (75); daughters, Karen (51) and Amy (48); son-in-law, David (45) and a granddaughter, Abby (8).
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church with Reverend Mark Teike officiating. A live stream of the funeral service may be viewed at the church website http://stpeterscolumbus.org/.
Family and friends may gather for visitation on Friday from 4-6 p.m. at Barkes, Weaver &Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street and also on Saturday from 10 a.m. till time of service at the church. The family also asks that everyone please wear a mask if planning to attend.
Burial will follow at St. Peter Lutheran Church Cemetery- Waymansville.
In memory of Mr. McCaa memorial contributions may be given through the funeral home to the Columbus North High School Athletic Department or Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
