SEYMOUR
Edna Mae Chasteen Spiehler was called to her eternal rest on Sunday February 6, 2022, at Schneck Medical Center at 3:15am. She was given physical life by her creator on May 11, 1924, entrusted to the care of Millard Chasteen and Lessie Ault Chasteen in Bobtown, Indiana.
She was baptized June 4, 1924, at St. John Lutheran Church, White Creek, Indiana as the Triune God washed away her sins and adopted her into His family, the church. On May 19, 1938, she confirmed her faith in her Lord at St. John Lutheran Church, White Creek, Indiana.
She attended grade school at Bobtown, Indiana. She attended high school at Cortland School, Indiana. Edna was awarded Spelling Bee Champion at her Cortland school. Even at the age 97 she could spell just as well.
Upon moving to Indianapolis, Indiana, Edna met the love of her life, Howard Spiehler, Jr., and they were married on January 10, 1948. They shared 57 years of married life until Howard’s passing on March 7, 2005. They lived in Indianapolis, Indiana until moving to their farmland in Bartholomew County in 1965. The Lord blessed their union with four children: Howard Spiehler III, Jeffery Lynn (deceased infant), Teresa Ann Lucas, and Karen Sue Spiehler Probst.
In addition to operating Spiehler Fish Hatchery and Fish Farming where they shared 30 years in their business together.
Edna served her church at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Waymansville, Indiana as a faithful member attending every Sunday and a faithful Sunday school teacher, and her most important work to her was being their publicity chairwoman, where many articles made front page of the church newspaper for St. Peter Lutheran church, Waymansville, Indiana for many years. Edna also served as a member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and was a bible study leader for the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League at St Peter Lutheran’s Missionary Bible classes. She was also a volunteer when needed.
Edna served her Lord by baking and sharing those dishes for many funeral meals and at St Peter’s serving homemade chicken &noodles, homemade chicken pot pie, her special homemade chocolate pie, snowball cake, and homemade black raspberry cobbler.
Edna enjoyed the hobbies of gardening (especially raising peanuts), cooking, baking, and canning. She loved reading her devotions and bible readings. She loved attending bible studies and worked hard in the study of God’s word.
Those remaining to cherish her loving memory are her children; Howard Spiehler III, Teresa Ann Spiehler Lucas, and Karen (Francis) Probst. Many grandchildren, great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, a sisters-in-law; Phyllis Chasteen, Barbara Hedges, Vera Lannerd, MaryJane West, brothers-in-law; James Hedges, Bob West in Florida, and many friends and family members.
Visitations for Edna will be at St Peter Lutheran Church at Waymansville, Indiana on February 10, 2022, from 10am to 11am with the service at 11am. Rev. Erik Sorenson and Rev. Jimmy Rodriguez will be officiating with burial at St. Peter Lutheran Church cemetery, Waymansville, Indiana.
Memorials may be given to St. Peter Lutheran church Waymansville, Indiana or Immanuel Lutheran Church, Seymour, Indiana in care of Voss and Sons Funeral Service.
