North Vernon gets to work on playground

New playground equipment is being installed at North Vernon City Park.

“I wished we had more to do” is a statement that many students have said about downtown North Vernon.

As a part of the North Vernon Park Board’s five-year master plan, they are installing brand new playground equipment.

Decades worth of children have experienced playing in the old playground at the city park. Because of age and safety issues, it was removed. New equipment will now go in its place.

“I’m very pleased that the children of North Vernon can have the time of their life and play on new equipment,” said Mike Ochs, mayor of North Vernon.

“Our kids deserve to be able to swing and slide and not get hurt. With this new equipment there will be hours of fun for children of all ages. I am very pleased to see this come about, so let the kids enjoy!”

The cost of the equipment and installation is estimated to be $115,000.

Almost $100,000 of that is coming from the previous park/pool bond, and the remaining will come from the parks department recreational budget.

The park was expecting to start this remodel in October 2021, but the equipment did not get delivered until mid-December.
