Club Olympia, Donner compete in Divisional meet

Fifty Club Olympia and 44 Donner Swim Club athletes competed in last weekend’s Southeast Divisional Championships at Center Grove High School.

The SE Divisional invites 20 teams from the southeast quadrant of Indiana. The top eight podium medal finishers in each event and those who meet difficult time standards qualified for this weekend’s Age Group State Championships or next weekend’s Senior State Championships.

Club Olympia nets several state cuts

Club Olympia swimmers claimed more than 75 podium medal finishes in individual and relay events, as well as eight Senior State, 13 Age Group State, and three national-level Speedo Sectional cuts.

Shreyan Kulkarni won the Boys 10-and-under 50-yard freestyle, 100 backstroke and 100 breaststroke. Other winners were Connelly Furnish in the Girls 14U 400 individual medley, Todd Hundley in the Boys 14U 400 IM, Misha Machavariani in the Boys 13-14 50 freestyle, Tony Machavariani in the Boys 12U 500 freestyle, Annie Murer in the Women’s Open 500 freestyle, and Hope Westphal in the Women’s Open 100 butterfly.

Judah Nickoll achieved his first Senior State and Central Zone Speedo Sectional cut in the Men’s Open 100 backstroke. Dathan Wolf added two Speedo Sectional bonus cuts and Senior State cuts in the Men’s Open 100 butterfly and 200 backstroke to go with the cuts he made at the high school sectional last month in the 100 backstroke and 100 freestyle.

Cole Ehara achieved his first Senior State cut, placing second in the Men’s Open 1650 freestyle. He also finished in second and just missed the Senior State cut in the 200 butterfly and 200 IM.

Annie Murer achieved her first Senior State cuts in the Women’s Open 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle, where she also was the event winner.

Todd Hundley also achieved Age Group State cuts in four 13-14 Boys events, the 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle, 200 butterfly and 400 IM, which he won. Misha Machavariani won the Boys 13-14 50 freestyle while achieving the Age Group State time standard.

Kulkarni won three of the four 10U events, achieving Age Group State cuts in the 50 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke, as well as the 50 breaststroke, where he finished in second place.

Aashka Shah got her first ever Age Group State cut in the 10U Girls 100 butterfly. Joshua Pendleton earned and 11-12 Boys 100 breaststroke cut, so he now has the state cuts in every 11-12 event except the 50 breaststroke.

Club Olympia distance swimmers took four of the top 11 places in the Men’s Open 1,650 freestyle with Cole Ehara, Ty Mayer, Josh Pendleton and Ethan Hall. Cassidy Furnish took fourth in the Girls 14U 1650 freestyle.

Advika Badve, Connelly Furnish, Sanaa Kulkarni and Nandini Kondhare teamed up to win the 11-12 Girls 200 freestyle and 200 medley relays and achieve the Age Group State cut in both. The Boys 15-18 200 medley relay of Nickoll, Pratt Badve, Wolf and Cavan Stilson won in a Senior State cut time.

Other swimmers receiving a medal on the award’s podium for top-eight finishes included Arjun Agarkar, Kulkarni, Vivan Shah and Daxton Wolf for finishing in second and Aahan Gupta, Adir Joshi, Tony Machavariani and Xavier Xhang for finishing in third in both the Boys 10U 200 freestyle and 200 medley relays.

Advika Badve had four podium finishes, including placing second in the Girls 11-12 50 backstroke and 50 breaststroke. Pratt Badve had three top-eight finishes; Madelyn Beyer teamed with Maggie Johnson, Annie Murer and Hope Westphal to place second in the Girls 15-18 200 freestyle relay and with Murer, Ashley Freel and Ali Trueblood to place third in the 200 medley relay.

Zoie Chandelkar had three individual podium finishes and teamed with Brooklyn Pendleton, Lovely Panda and Cassidy Furnish to place eighth in the Girls 13-14 200 freestyle relay. Spencer Erfmeier teamed with Ehara, Badve and Wolf to place fifth in the Boys 15-18 200 freestyle relay. Cassidy Furnish had three individual top-eight finishes.

Cali Gray, Bella Zhang, Myra Jaryal and Aahana Ingole combined to place fifth in the Girls 10U 200 medley relay. Gupta took third in the Boys 10U 50 butterfly. Josie Hudson teamed with Aashka Shah, Lily Pendleton and Emily Meek to place second in the Girls 10U 200 medley relay and fifth in the 200 freestyle relay. Johnson podiumed in five of her six events and finished in ninth in the sixth event. Ty Mayer had two podium finishes, and Murer had three podium finishes and scratched out of finals in her other three events to start focusing on Senior State.

Jasper Nickoll, competing in his just his second meet after joining Club Olympia 10 days earlier, combined with Hundley, Misha Machavariani and Keaton Stephenson to place fifth in the Boys 13-14 200 medley relay and sixth in the 200 freestyle relay. Lily Pendleton placed third in both the Girls 10U 200 freestyle and 200 IM. Aksh Ranjan medaled in both the Boys 11-12 50 breaststroke and 100 breaststroke. Aashka Shah had four seconds and two fifths in her six individual events. Vivan Shah podiumed in the Boys 10U 100 backstroke. Keaton Stephenson finished fourth in the Boys 13-14 200 freestyle. Stilson teamed with Pratt Badve, Judah Nickoll and Dathan Wolf to finish second in the Boys 15-18 200 freestyle relay.

Westphal had three podium finishes and scratched out of finals in her three Girls 15-18 events on the final day to start focusing on Senior State. Dathan Wolf had four podium finishes and scratched out of a fifth on the final day. Xavier Zhang had podium finishes in two of his Boys 10U events.

Donner nets PRs, podium finishes

Donner Swim Club earned several personal-bests and podium finishes at the Divisional meet.

Ainsley Sherlock in the 13-14 girls 100 breaststroke, and Camila Mejia Murguia in the 10U 100 butterfly earned state cuts. Mridula Muthukumaran achieved a zonal time cut for open-water 500 freestyle, and Aarush Mahato earned a state cut for open water 500 freestyle.

In the open boys division, Jude Abdallah reached the finals in all of his events. He finished fourth in the 100 breaststroke, sixth in the 200 freestyle, eighth in the 500 freestyle, 10th in the 100 freestyle, 14th in the 200 IM and 15th in the 50 freestyle.

Brock Smith placed fourth in the 200 butterfly, eighth in the 400 IM, 13th in the 200 breaststroke and 16th in the 100 butterfly.

In the open girls division, Ellie Proffitt reached finals in all of her events, winning the 100 breaststroke and finishing second in the 200 breaststroke, eighth in the 200 freestyle and ninth in the 200IM. Paige Maddox placed fourth in the 1650 freestyle, ninth in the 500 freestyle, 10th in the 100 backstroke, 11th in the 100 butterfly. Brooke Meek took 12th in the 100 breaststroke and 500 freestyle, 13th in 100 freestyle, 15th in the 200 freestyle.

In the 14U boys, Aarush Mahato placed sixth in 500 freestyle, 10th in the 100 butterfly, 12th in the 100 freestyle and 200 Freestyle.

In the 14U girls, Nitya Garg placed 12th in the 200IM. Abby Proffitt placed fifth in the 1650 freestyle timed-finals event and 12th in the 200 backstroke. Ainsley Sherlock placed first in the 100 breaststroke, sixth in the 50 freestyle seventh in the 100 freestyle and 12th in the 200 freestyle. Muthukumaran finished sixth in the 500 freestyle, seventh in the 100 butterfly, eighth in the 200 freestyle, 10th in the 50 Freestyle and 12th in the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke.

In the 10U boys, Jonathan Callaway placed fifth in the 100 freestyle and 200 freestyle, seventh in the 100 breaststroke, eighth in the 50 breaststroke and 10th in the 100 backstroke. Reyansh Nighojkar placed tenth in the 100 breaststroke and 12th in 50 breaststroke.

In the 10U girls, Camila Mejia Murguia won the 100 butterfly and finished third in the 100 freestyle, fourth in the 50 breaststroke and 50 butterfly, sixth in the 50 freestyle and seventh in the 100 backstroke. Rebeca Mejia Murguia placed second in the 50 breaststroke, third in the 100 breaststroke, fifth in 50 Butterfly, eighth in the 100 freestyle, ninth in the 50 freestyle and 11th in the 50 backstroke.

Sherlock, Abby Proffitt, Garg and Muthukumaran placed second in the Girls 13-14 200 freestyle relay and third in the 200 medley relay. Shleby Nay, Jessica Lee, Mattie Handlon and Cora Tregoning were 12th in the 200 medley relay and 15th in the 200 freestyle relay.

The 13-14 boys team of Harshith Devaguptapu, Isaac Niewedde, Nicolas Bowers and Aarush Mahato placed eighth in the 200 freestyle relay.

Rajvi Sapkal, Sanchita Ponnathpur, Deetya Chintam and Caroline Crawford placed ninth in the 11-12 girls 200 freestyle relay and 10th in the 200 medley relay.

Levi Bense, Miguel Salomao, Drew Nay, Garrett Perfetto finished fifth in the 11-12 boys 200 freestyle relay and sixth in the 200 medley relay.

In 10U girls, Rebeca Mejia Murguia, Camilla Mejia Murguia, Lexi Miller and Anika Arun placed third in the 200 medley relay and sixth in the 200 freestyle relay. Millie Fry, Shaivi Nighojkar, Ella Bringman and Luiza Salomao took fourth in the 200 medley relay. lla Bringman, Ellie Fitzsimmons, Alie Ferrenburg and Shaivi Nighojkar were eighth in the 200 freestyle relay.

In 10U boys, Lincoln Cawford, Reyanch Nighojkar, Jonathan Callaway and Nathan Perfetto finished fifth in the 200 medley relay. Reyansh Nighojkar, Crawford, Cooper Bringman and Callaway placed sixth in the 200 freestyle relay.

SPEEDSKATING

Speed Skaters finish strong

Full Throttle Speed Skating Team competed in the Land of Lincoln Short Track meet. The Full Throttle Speed Skating team finished its season last weekend at the Land of Lincoln Short Track Championships in Champaign, Illinois. The regional meet included more than 130 participants and teams from Illinois, Wisconsin, Missouri, Colorado, Washington D.C. and Pennsylvania.

This was an age-based meet, where participants were divided by age and skill class. Final standing was based on total points earned from each distance event by gender. The team came home with five top-three finishes in four divisions.

Gabe Marimoto Taqueushi competed at 85m, 170m, 255m and 340m distances and finished third overall for Tiny Tots Boys.

Christopher Schwab competed in his first meet in the Pee Wee B division at 111m, 222m, 333m and 444m distances and placed sixth overall for Pee Wee B Boys.

Vivaan Gupta and Meredith Schwab competed at 111m, 222m, 333m and 500m distances. Gupta finished fifth overall for Pee Wee A Boys, and Schwab placed second overall for Pee Wee A Girls.

Emma Scherwinski competed in her first meet in the Pony B division at 222m, 333m, 444m and 500m distances and finished fifth overall for Pony B Girls.

Bryan Wang, Luis Marimoto Taqueushi, and Ritvik Prithivi all competed in the Junior E division at 222m, 333m, 500m and 777m distances. Wang finished second, Taqueshi third and Prithivi eighth overall in the Junior E Boys.

Lisa Notestein Schwab competed at 333m, 500m, 777m and 1000m distances and took home first overall for the Senior B divison.

Full Throttle will be hosting the Bejing 2022 Speed Skating Olympians at the Hamilton Center Ice Arena on the evening of April 13. Arranged by US Speedskating, the Olympians are touring speed skating clubs in the Northeast and Midwest US.

Full Throttle Speed Skating practices at the Hamilton Center Ice Arena and is coached by Taylor and Mikey Burdekin of Columbus.

HOCKEY

Peewee A takes third

Columbus Flames Peewee A finished third in its division in the end of the season Buckeye Tournament.

Peewee A beat Northern Kentucky 8-3, fell to Junior Cyclones 5-0 and beat Louisville 3-1 and played Junior Fuel Black 4-1, putting them in the semifinals, where they lost to the Junior Cyclones 2-1.

Carter Davis led the team with three goals and four assists. Simon Barnes and Ethan Neumann each netted three goals and two assists, Ryan McGhehey recorded two goals and four assists, Kai Bergmann had two goals and three assists, Brooks Larsh scored two goals, Zane Lynch notched one goal and two assists and Carter Kareus added two assists. Canyon Long was in net, saving 84 of 96 shots for a save percentage of 87%.
