COLUMBUS, Ind. — COVID-19 hospitalizations at Columbus Regional Hospital declined this week to the lowest level since this past summer.
There were five people hospitalized with COVID-19 at CRH on Monday, down from nine the week before, according to figures from the local COVID-19 Community Taskforce. Coronavirus hospitalizations have plummeted nearly 93% from a record 70 on Jan. 17.
The last time there were fewer local COVID-19 hospitalizations was on July 31, when four people were hospitalized.
Deaths from the virus in Bartholomew County and the surrounding area also have decreased.
So far this month, seven people in the area have died from COVID-19, down from 50 last month, according to the latest figures from the Indiana Department of Health.
Over the course of the pandemic, the virus has killed a total of 823 people in the area, which includes Bartholomew, Brown, Decatur, Jackson, Jennings and Shelby counties.
The update from CRH comes as statewide hospitalizations due to COVID-19 have fallen to their lowest point since the first month of the pandemic, The Indianapolis Business Journal reported.
State health officials reported Wednesday that 360 people were hospitalized with COVID-19 as of Tuesday, state health officials said.
Statewide hospitalizations have fallen 90% since hitting a pandemic high of 3,519 on Jan. 13.
