After the COVID-19 pandemic significantly reduced the number of students the Job Corps center at Camp Atterbury could served over the past year and a half, the center has resumed full operation.
“As Indiana continues to emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic, I want to make sure that our young people are aware of one of the greatest resources available to them: the Atterbury Job Corps campus in Southern Johnson County, Indiana,” said Joshua Kuhn, business and community liaison for Job Corps at Camp Atterbury. “The Atterbury Job Corps has immediate availability to safely house, feed, and educate qualified applicants and place them directly into employment in our community.”
Job Corps is open to people ages 18 to 24 who meet income and other eligibility requirements.
“At the Atterbury Job Corps campus, they have the capacity to serve over 300 students in areas such as customer service-based industries like culinary arts and certified nursing and construction-based industries such as carpentry, welding, and masonry,’ Kuhn said. “In addition, they have worked directly with local and national employers to help them fill in-demand and well-paying positions.”
Kuhn said Job Corps facilities are housing students with protocols and policies in place to track COVID symptoms, test and prevent an outbreak.
“When coupled with the huge demand for highly skilled and competent workers, the Atterbury Job Corps campus can help Columbus’ ability to recover more quickly economically,” Kuhn said. He noted a need for more skilled workers in the future due to passage of the federal bipartisan infrastructure package.
