COLUMBUS, Ind. — Local law enforcement officers along with special agents from the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force arrested a California stabbing suspect in Columbus early Tuesday morning.
At approximately 5:20 a.m., officers from the Columbus Police Department’s Intelligence Led Policing Unit, which is comprised of officers from CPD as well as the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office, stopped a vehicle near 10th Street and Gladstone Avenue that
was driven by Gerber Efrain Canizalez Estrada, 40, of Los Angeles.
Estrada initially identified himself using a false name and a fraudulent identification card, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.
A short time later Estrada’s identity was confirmed and he was taken into custody without incident. Estrada’s warrant was issued in connection with a case in California where a woman was stabbed multiple times, Harris said.
Estrada was remanded to the Bartholomew County Jail on the following preliminary charges:
–California warrant
–Possession of a false government identification card
–False informing
–Operating a vehicle without a license
