Samuel “Sam” L. Dooley, 72, of Columbus, passed away at 1:50 a.m. Wednesday, August 3, 2022 at home with his family by his side.

Sam was born June 5, 1950, in Carlisle, Arkansas, the son of Owen and Mary Moss Dooley. On July 3, 1976, he married Patricia A. Ballard.

Sam retired from FedEx after 20 years of service and started his own rental business. He truly enjoyed buying and remodeling old homes. He was a very selfless man and often gave money to charities. He liked to help people in need. Sam was proud of a lifetime of hard work in order to provide for his family. Sam was a proud, self-made man. He enjoyed fishing, was an avid Indianapolis Colts fan and cherished time spent with the grandchildren and the great-grandchildren. Mr. Dooley will be remembered as a kind, giving man that believed in hard work, family values and helping those that were less fortunate than himself. He will be deeply missed by those that knew him best.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Patricia; daughters, Michelle (Tom) Kooiman, Tyce (Charles) Kinman, both of Columbus; grandchildren, Gage (Stephanie) Dooley, Cameron (Jasmine) Oathout, Rain Kinman, Lori (Sean) Scrivnor, Kacie Kooiman; great-grandchildren, Jase Dooley, Lexie Dooley, Payton Oathout, Khyber Oathout; siblings, Edgar (Kathy) Dooley of Omaha, Nebraska, Ann Johnson of Columbus; Many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, James Dooley, Rita Wells, Bonnie Davidson, Marva Sue Mullis; father and mother-in-law, Horace and Aline Ballard.

The funeral service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Barkes, Weaver &Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Pastor Wayne Lee officiating. Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday at the funeral home. A live stream of the funeral service may be viewed Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at barkesweaverglick.com.

Entombment will be at Garland Brook Mausoleum.
