Turning Point, Horizon House get donations

On behalf of Horizon House emergency family shelter, Elaine Breeck accepts a $4,000 donation in January from the W.R. & Floy A. Sauey Family Foundation. The foundation is affiliated with Flambeau Inc. in Columbus. Presenting the check and representing Flambeau is plant manager Joseph Petersen.

The W.R. and Floy A. Sauey Family Foundation celebrated 25 years of charitable giving in January, including benefitting some Columbus charities.

The Wisconsin-based foundation continues to have an impact in communities where the Nordic Group of Companies operates, including Flambeau Inc. in Columbus. Last month, the foundation donated $4,000 to Columbus charities Turning Point Domestic Violence Services and Horizon House Emergency Family Shelter.

“We are beyond grateful for this amazing gift,” Turning Point Director Whittney Lloyd said. “Please know what an impact it will have on our work.”

Elaine Breeck of Horizon House said the donation will assist its mission focused on coaching families and individuals to empower them to identify and eliminate barriers to self-sufficiency.

Nordic consists of three primary companies. Flambeau, Inc., which has an injection molding facility in Columbus, also operates in Wisconsin, Georgia, Ohio, Indiana, Arizona, Michigan, United Kingdom, Mexico and China; Seats Incorporated, which operates in Wisconsin, Texas, Kansas, Iowa and Mexico; and Columbia Vehicle Group, which operates in Wisconsin. Nordic perpetually funds the Foundation by contributing 1% of annual profits, and many Sauey family members and Nordic Group volunteers contribute personal time.

The Sauey family began giving in 1998 with a $1,250 grant to Circus World Museum in the foundation’s hometown, Baraboo, Wisconsin. Since then, the Foundation has granted over $100,000 per year in scholarships and grants, totaling over $2.6 million in 25 years. Many types of charities have received support, including advocacy and support groups, shelters, and food banks.

The W.R. and Floy A. Sauey Family Foundation will continue to support causes and organizations with a communal impact on Nordic Group associates, focusing on projects that impact quality of life, especially those focused on child and family issues.
