ST. LEON — Several boys swimmers from Columbus East and Columbus North qualified for Saturday’s East Central Sectional finals with top-eight qualifying swims in Thursday night’s preliminaries.
East’s Brady Beyer had the fastest-qualifying time in the 500-yard freestyle (4 minutes, 48.40 seconds) and third-fastest in the 100 breaststroke (59.93). Judah Nickoll is second in both the 200 freestyle (1:48.35) and 100 backstroke (54.21). Misha Machavariani is third in the 200 individual medley (2:02.11) and fourth in the 100 butterfly (54.51).
Also for the Olympians, Todd Hundley is fourth in the 200 IM (2:05.61) and sixth in the 100 backstroke (56.49), Keaton Stephenson is fifth in the 200 freestyle (1:51.47), Spencer Erfmeier is sixth in the 500 freestyle (5:06.70) and Cavan Stilson is seventh in the 50 freestyle (22.72) and 100 freestyle (50.36). East is third in both the 200 medley (1:40.32) and 400 freestyle (3:25.30) relays.
North’s Pratt Badve had the third-fastest qualifying time in the 100 backstroke (55.06) and sixth-fastest in the 50 freestyle (22.53). Jude Abdallah is fourth in the 200 freestyle (1:49.55) and eighth in the 500 freestyle (5:10.98).
Also for the Bull Frogs, Brock Smith is seventh in the 100 butterfly (57.14). Isaac Proffitt is eighth in both the 50 freestyle (22.75) and 100 freestyle (50.75), and Maclain Clock is eighth in the 100 backstroke (59.59). North is fourth in the 200 medley relay (1:42.95) and sixth in the 200 freestyle (1:36.70) and 400 freestyle (3:36.35) relays.
The diving competition begins at 9 a.m. Saturday, and swimming finals and consolations start at 1 p.m. The winner of each swimming event and anyone else meeting the state standard qualify for next weekend’s state finals. Beyond the 20 sectional champions from around the state and others meeting the standard, the next-best times are added to the field until the limit of 32 in each event is reached.
