Education Third House set for March 4

A local teachers’ union will host a virtual forum for lawmakers to field questions related to education.

The Columbus Educators’ Association (CEA) is hosting an education-focused virtual Third House on March 4 from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Sen. Greg Walker, R-Columbus, and Rep. Ryan Lauer, R-Columbus, plan on attending.

Registration to receive a Zoom link is available at bit.ly/23ThirdHouse, and questions for legislators can be submitted at bit.ly/2023Question. Members of the public are invited to attend the event and are encouraged to submit education-related questions.

“We are grateful for legislators making time to talk with teachers,” said CEA President Amy London. “There are a lot of bills that are concerning teachers, and we think this will be a great opportunity for teachers and lawmakers to engage in an open and honest conversation.”

More information on proposed legislation is available at iga.in.gov/legislative/2023/bills/. The 2023 legislative session includes several bills on education-related subjects, including handgun training for teachers, library materials, financial literacy, school board elections, workforce development, parental rights and sex education. Education also factors into the state’s budgetary planning.
