Columbus North senior Cooper Horn and Jennings County seniors Owen Law and Keegan Manowitz have been selected to the Hoosier Basketball Coaches Association Regional All-Star Team.
The HBCA All-Stars recognize the top senior boys and girls in southern Indiana. Horn, Law and Manowitz will play for the East team that will play the West in the annual HBCA All-Star Classic on April 16 at North Daviess.
Locals make ICGSA Academic All-State
Columbus North senior Emma Long and Columbus East senior Allison Craig have been named to the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association Academic All-State team.
East senior Heidi Murphy and Jennings County senior Megan Vogel are honorable mention selections.
North wrestling coach receives honor
Columbus North wrestling coach Matt Joyce has been named the Jeffersonville Regional Coach of the Year.
Joyce and the Bull Dogs sent 10 wrestlers to the semistate and finished second in the regional as a team. Sophomore Justice Thornton qualified for state at 132 pounds.
Jennings basketball coach wins award
Jennings County boys basketball coach Josh Land has been named the District 3 Coach of the Year by the Hoosier Basketball Coaches Association.
Land has led the Panthers to one of their best seasons in school history at 23-2 and their first sectional title since 2005. They will play Evansville Reitz for a regional title at 4 p.m. Saturday at Seymour.
Barker named North girls hoops MVP
Senior Lauren Barker has been named the Columbus North girls basketball team’s Most Valuable Player. Barker also was recognized for having the top free-throw percentage.
Senior Emma Long won the Bull Dog Award, junior Kathryn Wilson was named Most Improved and senior Kayla Jones won the Spirit Award.
Senior manager Moana Steele won the Karen McCaa “Selflessness” Award. Freshman Kenna Conrad won the JV Martha Kalb Award.
