BCSC subcommittee meetings set for March 27

Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. has set a date for its next meetings on public engagement and school board agendas.

The school board’s two subcommittees on these items will each meet on March 27 at 6 p.m. in the BCSC administration building. According to Superintendent Jim Roberts, the public engagement group will meet in the boardroom, and the agenda group will meet in the Terrace Room.

Each subcommittee is made up of three school board members tasked with coming up with recommendations on how the board can improve in these two respective areas. The public engagement group includes Rich Stenner (chair), Dale Nowlin and Logan Schulz. The meeting agenda group includes Todd Grimes (chair), Pat Bryant and Jason Major.

During the public engagement subcommittee’s first meeting in February, board members mostly gathered input from attendees, who numbered at about 15. Some of these comments focused on past issues with communication and suggestions for future improvement. Other remarks focused on specific concerns that community members have about BCSC.

According to a previous interview with Grimes, no members of the public attended the agenda subcommittee’s first meeting. He said it was very productive, with members covering a wide range of topics.

“We’re not looking to make any major changes,” said Grimes. “I’d say we are just simply examining ways to make our meetings perhaps more efficient and while, at the same time, looking at any ways to maximize the amount of information, meaningful information, that we can get out to our stakeholders as well.”

In addition to the subcommittee meetings, the BCSC school board will hold a strategic planning session at 9 a.m. March 24 in the administration building’s boardroom.

School officials have indicated that they will likely discuss BCSC’s strategic plan at the session. Other possible topics include efforts to create team structures at Columbus East and North high schools, facilities work and the progress of the two subcommittees.
