MALE

Holden Pittman // Hauser sophomore baseball player

Pittman went 3 for 3 with a double and an RBI in an 11-1 win against North Decatur, had an RBI in a 12-11 win at North Decatur, went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI in a 9-2 loss to Lawrenceburg and went 2 for 3 in a 9-2 loss to Brownstown Central.

His performance last week: “I think I hit the ball pretty good. I think we held our own.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “I like to make sure I get enough batting practice in so that I don’t come out flat in a game. Then I warm my arm and long toss and use the (elastic) bands.”

Favorite drink: “Gatorade”

Favorite food: “I love El Jefe Mexican food.”

Favorite class: “Advanced PE (Weights)”

Favorite sports team: “I love watching North Carolina basketball.”

Favorite athlete: “Barry Bonds”

Role model: “I look up to my dad (Brett Pittman)”

Best advice: “When times are tough, you just have to push through and get past it. Just work through it the best you can.”

Athletics goal: “I want to make All-Conference this year.”

If you could travel anywhere: “I’d like to go to Brazil because last year I had a foreign exchange student, and I think it would be really great to hang out with him in his hometown.”

Maddi Rutan // Columbus North senior softball player

Maddi Rutan

Rutan went 4 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs and was the winning pitcher in a 9-1 win against Whiteland, went 3 for 3 with a homer and six RBIs in an 18-4 win against Seymour, went 3 for 3 with a homer and three RBIs in an 8-5 win at Terre Haute South and went 1 for 1 and threw a one-hitter with 15 strikeouts in a 4-0 win against Castle.

Her performance last week: “I dialed in my swings and really focused in on what pitches I wanted to hit..”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “I always just make make sure I stretch a whole lot, and when I’m pitching, I normally do my stretches with (catcher) Kirsten (Danford). It’s kind of a ritual, and I always drink by V8 before games.”

Favorite drink: “V8 Energy Strawberry Lemonade”

Favorite food: “Chicken”

Favorite class: “Weights”

Favorite sports team: “I like Athletes Unlimited.”

Favorite athlete: “I’ve always looked up to (national team pitchers) Rachel Garcia and Jennie Finch.”

Role model: “My parents (Darren and Wendy Rutan).”

Best advice: “Never give up, and work for your goals because anything is possible if you work for what you want; and just believe in God.”

Athletics goal: “I’d say start as a freshman in college (at Eastern Kentucky), and I want to become a professional athlete and play hard for my team.”

If you could travel anywhere: “I really want to go to Hawaii, but I’d really like to go to Japan to play softball.”
