North runners shine
CARMEL — Columbus North seniors Lily Baker finished fifth in the girls 3,200 meters and Will Russell sixth in the boys 3,200 in Friday night’s Carmel Distance Showcase.
Baker, who normally is an 800 runner, ran the metric two-mile in 10 minutes, 31.79 seconds. North’s Julia Kiesler took ninth in 10:44.01, and Julie Klaus was 14th in 10:56.30. Park Tudor’s Sophia Kennedy was the winner out of 100 girls runners in a meet-record 10:07.28.
In the boys event, Russell finished sixth out of 128 runners in 9:01.53. North’s Neal White took 17th in 9:24.01, Adler Larson was 22nd in 9:25.97 and Mateo Mendez was 32nd in 9:28.65. Carmel’s Cole Mathison won in 8:58.38.

BC posts shutout
BLOOMINGTON — Brown County dropped only seven total games in the five matches in rolling to a 5-0 win against South Putnam in a Western Indiana Conference match that was moved inside the Indiana University Tennis Center because of rain.
Anna Stogsdill blanked Ara Watson 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, Anna Tipton beat Kylie Arnold 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and Julia Burt downed Kaley Hodge 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3 singles for Brown County (7-3, 3-0).
Katie Tipton and Londyn Koester topped Allie Newby and Sydnee Boswell 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles. Ashlynn Mercer and Cady Kemp defeated Courtney Huff and Madie Newby 6-0, 6-3 at No. 2 singles.
