COLUMBUS
Mrs. Joyce Ann Burton, 80, passed away after a long and fulfilling life. She was born in Bedford, Indiana on May 30, 1942, the daughter of Crawford Mathis and Lorene (George) Martin. Joyce lived in Columbus her entire life and attended Columbus High School.
Joyce married Roger Arlen Burton in 1960 and had 2 sons, Roger Alan Burton (Brenda) of Ellettsville, Indiana and Mark Wayne Burton (Deanie) of Columbus, Indiana.
In her younger years, Joyce enjoyed traveling with her children and spending time camping and boating on Lake Lemon. She went with her family on vacations across the country. Joyce had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh. Her sons were her pride and joy. They gave her life meaning.
Joyce is also survived by her niece, Cindy (Mark) Wigley; her grandchildren, Trevor Burton (Heather Hackleman), Nicholas Burton (Sara Aylward), Alexandria Burton, Luke Burton, Sean Burton, Scott Burton, Dawson Burton and Trevor Turnbow. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Mary (Mathis) Kent, and Jean (Mathis) McFarland.
The funeral will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday at Barkes, Weaver &Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street.
A time of visitation for family and friends will be 12:00 p.m. to time of service.
She will be laid to rest at Garland Brook Cemetery.
