COLUMBUS
Franklin D. Barkes, 89, of Columbus, passed from this life at 3:23 p.m. Friday, April 21, 2023, at the Columbus Regional Hospital Emergency Room.
Mr. Barkes was born April 8, 1934, in Columbus, the son of Homer and Margaret DuBois Barkes.
He married Edna Long Hawley August 10, 2010.
Frank retired from Cummins Engine Company in 1985 after several years of service.
He was a member of First Christian Church
A 1951 graduate of Columbus High School and was a lifetime member of SAAS (Single Action Shooting Society).
Survivors include his wife; children, Audie S. Barkes of Indianapolis and Dana R. Barkes of Seymour; brother, Larry Barkes of Columbus; his special buddy, Ryan A. Mann of Columbus; stepson, Bryan (Angie) Hawley of Columbus; stepdaughter, Diana L. Mann of Columbus; seven step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Grace Anne Lane Barkes April 21, 2003; brothers, Robert and Max Barkes and Ervin Williams; and a sister, Betty Benefield.
The funeral will be held at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday at Barkes, Weaver &Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street.
A time of visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to time of service.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church.
Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
