North, Brown County to meet for sectional tennis title

It will be Columbus North vs. Brown County for the North Sectional title in girls tennis.

The 12th-ranked Bull Dogs beat Columbus East 5-0, and Brown County topped Hauser 4-1 in Thursday’s semifinals. The title match is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. today.

North (16-4) picked up two quick wins, with Kathryn Wilson beating Lauren Degner at No. 1 singles and Aya Saad blanking Katie Hong at No. 2 singles by 6-0, 6-0 scores. The Bull Dogs clinched the match when Annabelle Sun topped Ruth Federle 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.

North’s Lucy Bergman and Grace Conner defeated Shruthika Kumar and Katey Rieckers 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles. The Bull Dogs’ Siri Poludasu and Nino Akahalya beat Allie Gribbins and Sara Moran 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.

The Olympians finish the season 9-12.

Meanwhile, Brown County (12-7) also jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in its win against Hauser. Anna Stogsdill beat Bella Kilps 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, and Katie Tipton and Londyn Koester topped Addyson Barriger and Mattie Foster 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles for the Eagles.

Brown County’s Anna Tipton beat Charlie Clark 6-1, 5-7, 6-1 at No. 2 singles, and Cady Kemp and Ava Kelly defeated Abby Blair and Kayden Miller 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles. The win for the Jets came at No. 2 singles, where Lydia Jordan outlasted Juila Burt 7-5, 3-6, (10-5).

Hauser finishes the season 10-7.

“We had a great season with a lot of firsts for us,” Hauser coach Molly Crabtree said. “We beat two teams that we haven’t beat in at least eight seasons, and we won team (Mid-Hoosier) conference outright. We have a lot of girls coming back next year, so I’m happy about that.”
