Family Service Inc. of Bartholomew County will offer a free training session to provide education to community members on preventing child sexual abuse.
The session will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Family Service conference room, 1531 13th St., Columbus. To register, email Family Service officials Raina Jones at rjones@familyservicebc.org or Lisa Teague at lteague@familyservicebc.org.
Teague noted the need for such training in data from the Indiana Department of Child Services showing nine substantiated cases of sexual abuse against children in Bartholomew County so far this year compared to just eight cases for all of 2022.
She said members of the community can address the problem first by educating themselves about it. Further, she said, people who suspect any kind of child abuse should call the Department of Child Services hotline at 1-800-800-5556.
