COLUMBUS
Carol J. Gearhart, 85, of Columbus, passed away at 11:45 p.m. Sunday, August 13, 2023 at Brown County Health and Living Center.
Carol was born June 13, 1938, in Jennings County, Indiana, the daughter of Samuel and Elsie Whittington Ferrenburg. On June 21, 1956, she married Dean Gearhart.
Carol worked as a teaching assistant at Lincoln Elementary School. She loved reading, painting and cross stitching. Spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren was one of her favorite things to do. Going to yard sales and tending to her various flowers in the garden were some other ways that Carol spent her time.
Survivors include her daughters, Sandy (Dave) Johnson, Cathi Chavis (Paul Hurt); son, David Gearhart, all of Columbus; grandchildren, Autumne (Justin) Streeval, Amanda (Eric) Kerkhof, Ben (Melissa) Johnson; great-grandchildren, Stella and Madelyn Streeval, Oliver, Isaac, Alex and Ella Kerkhof, Haley and Sidney Johnson; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dean; sister, Karin Sidwell; brother, Carl Whittington; brothers, Kenneth, Lawrence, George and Michael Ferrenburg.
In keeping with Carol’s wishes, cremation will take place and no services are planned at this time.
Inurnment will take place at Garland Brook Cemetery.
