About 80 people gathered with city officials to discuss and exchange ideas on increasing safety and peace of mind in the neighborhood around 11th and Washington streets, an area that produced more than 1,600 calls to police since the beginning of the year.

An 1,150-pound Duroc boar named Tickle Me Elmo, owned by Ron and Dian Krumme of Jackson County, was named “World’s Largest Boar” at the Indiana State Fair.

A report generated by the Southern Indiana Housing Development Corp. to emphasize a critical need in the state for housing improvements in the low to moderate income group, showed 224 families in Bartholomew County lived on less than $1,000 a year, 947 families lived on $3,000 a year and 367 homes in the county did not have hot water available.
