Officials set voting locations for municipal election

Bartholomew County election officials have set voting locations for the upcoming Nov. 7 municipal election, with early voting set to start in a little over a month.

Starting Oct. 16 , early in-person voting will be held weekdays at the former Peddles and Vines store in NexusPark from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will end Nov. 6 at noon.

Early in-person voting also will held at NexusPark and the Bartholomew County Government Office Building from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Oct. 28 and Nov. 4, the two Saturdays before Election Day.

In addition, local election officials have set eight Election Day voting locations:

  • Flintwood Wesleyan Church, 5300 25th St.
  • St. Johns Masonic Lodge, 4131 Rocky Ford Road
  • NexusPark, 2288 25th St.
  • Donner Center, 739 22nd St.
  • River of Living Water Christian Church, 51 N. Brooks St.
  • Bartholomew County Government Office Building, 440 Third St.
  • Terrace Lake Church, 4260 W. County Road 200 S.
  • Westside Community Church, 124 Tipton Lakes Blvd.

The election will decide who the next mayor of Columbus will be, as current Mayor Jim Lienhoop is not seeking another term. It also will be the first election since the council district were redrawn as part of the once-a-decade redistricting process following the 2020 census and the city’s decision to adopt “second class” status.

The adotpion of second class status will expand the number of seats on the city council from seven to nine. Currently, there are five city council districts and two at-large seats. The new set-up will include six council districts and three at-large seats.
