Betty Jane Crews, 101, passed away Thursday, September 21, 2023 at Four Seasons Healthcare Center. Betty was born August 26, 1922 in Bartholomew County. She was the daughter of Millard and Irma Nugent.
She was a graduate of Columbus High School and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in nursing from Franklin College. Betty enjoyed traveling and working with her nursing friends after graduation.
Betty was a founding member of Asbury United Methodist Church. She enjoyed reading, loom weaving, and crafting.
Betty is survived by her children, Sherri Newsom Haiderer of Columbus, Jane (Bill) Taylor of Lebanon, and Jim (Merry) Crews of Indianapolis; her grandchildren, Andy (Brooke) Newsom, Eric Haiderer, Will (Amanda) Taylor, Jonathan (Amanda) Taylor, Amy (Jared) Springman, David (Jamie) Crews, Matthew Crews, Michael Crews, Jeffrey Crews, and Caitlin (Mac) Gardiner; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Donald J. Newsom; her second husband, James Robert Crews; and her son, James Michael Newsom.
In keeping with Betty’s wishes, cremation will take place and she will be laid to rest in the Garland Brook Mausoleum.
Memorial donations in Betty’s name may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana, Asbury United Methodist Church, or Southeastern Guide Dogs in Palmetto, Florida.
