Columbus North freshman Anna Hewiett, 14, played the cello in front of Baker’s Fine Gifts and Accessories during Strolling Night in 1998, when pedestrians were treated to several different musicians, singing and extended store hours.

Construction workers began fencing off the Bartholomew County Public Library Plaza in preparation for a three-month renovation project of building new steps on the front and side of the building, replacing dogwood trees, making changes in accessibility ramps and constructing a new walkway between the library and the Visitors Center.

1998

Traffic snarls abounded as the Indiana Department of Transportation started milling and resurfacing about 10 miles of roadway stretching from Washington Street at 11th Street to State Road 9 east of Columbus.

Right-Turn-on-Red-signs were installed at eight city intersections.
