Roger D. Brandt

Roger D. Brandt, 70, of Columbus, passed away at 3:25 p.m. Saturday, December 23, 2023, at his home.

Roger was born September 16, 1953, in Seymour, the son of Donald and Annalene Stahl Brandt.

On February 14, 1976, he married Deborah A. Grimm.

He was confirmed at Jonesville Lutheran Church and later graduated from Columbus North High School in 1971.

He was a member of New Hope Christian Church and Driftwood Utility Board for fourteen years.

After graduating he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served from 1971-1974 as Spec. 4 comp. clerk with a stop in Korea.

Mr. Brandt spent much of his career in the trash business in sales with Rumpke and most recently Best Way Disposal of Indianapolis.

Up until his recent setback fighting pancreatic cancer, he didn’t miss more than a few days in the 40 plus years at work.

His work ethic was second to none. During his free time, he used to ride motorcycles, coach his son’s sports teams, lounge in his pool, take naps with his dogs, travel to Bloomington with his wife to watch the Hoosier basketball team and most recently he was spotted at all his grandkids sports and activities.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Debbie Brandt; sons, Nicholas Brandt of Arizona and Cory (Carri) Brandt of Columbus; grandchildren, Jordyn Brandt, Landon Brandt, Ty Brandt and Carter Brandt; sisters, Vicki (Wayne) Copeland of North Vernon and Cindy Brandt of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Michael and Larry Brandt.

The funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Thursday at New Hope Christian Church with John Sichting officiating. Following the service, cremation will take place.

Family and friends may gather for a time of visitation from 10:00 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mr. Brandt’s grandchildren’s education fund.
