City and county officials were trying to salvage a plan to move a historic bridge from Newbern to the Columbus People Trail near 25th Street after a state agency pulled federal funding from the project.

An almost $300,000 loss by Home Federal Bancorp caused by a Decatur County bank customer allegedly depositing bad checks would be passed on to the bank’s shareholders unless the company could recover the funds.
