Members of the community could dedicate a love song to a loved one to benefit the annual Love Songs for Love Chapel Valentine’s Day fundraiser. For $10 or more, dedicated songs were played on Columbus’ QMIX 107.3 radio station.

1999

Several locals, including Columbus’ Bebette Perr, traveled to St. Louis to hear Pope John Paul II speak at the TWA Dome. More than 100,000 people attended the Mass, including 250 cardinals, archbishops and bishops, and more than 1,000 priests.

Thomas A. Harris, author of the bestseller “I’m OK — You’re OK,” was a guest lecturer for the Distinguished Visitors series held at Columbus East High School. All 900 tickets for the series were sold out in advance.
