COLUMBUS
Jerry E. Perdue, 82, a life-long resident of Columbus, Indiana, passed from this life Saturday, May 11, 2024, at his home.
Jerry was born in Columbus, April 8, 1942, the ninth and youngest child born to Bulia and Gladys Cohee Perdue. He was the husband of Patricia Mae Wycoff Perdue whom he was married to for nearly 47 years from June 11, 1960 until her passing March 3, 2007.
Jerry had been employed at Arvin Industries earlier in life and then he began a 42 year career as the foreman at Garland Brook Cemetery.
Jerry was a member of East Columbus Christian Church where he had been a Sunday School teacher for many years. At the age of 61, Jerry began racing go-karts; a passion he would continue for nine years. Jerry also loved to attend and watch dirt track racing. He liked to play softball and he had been a Little League baseball coach.
Surviving to cherish Jerry’s life are his children, Jerry W. Perdue of Columbus, Pamela S. (Lance) Rogers of Columbus and Tracey L. (Ray) Jines of Columbus; grandchildren, Kaila (Jacob) Short of Columbus, Meghan (Thomas) Riley of Indianapolis, Johnathan (Grace) Rogers of Columbus and Shaylee Perdue of Columbus; great-grandchildren, Lexi, Mady, Harrison, Griffin, Jude and Henry; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Jerry was preceded in death by his father and stepmother, Bulia and Ivy Perdue; mother, Gladys Perdue; wife, Patricia Mae Perdue; and his eight siblings.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 18, 2024, at Barkes, Weaver &Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street; Penny Newby will officiate.
Family and friends may gather for a time of visitation from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
Jerry will be laid to rest next to his wife in Section 87 at the Garland Brook Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Jerry to the Liberty Academy in Columbus.
