Brian’s picks

* Residents can figuratively let their patriotism take them sky high at 7 p.m. Friday at the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic’s free, annual Salute! concert at a new location this year — the Columbus Municipal Airport — with a theme of aerial flight amid classic warbirds there. The professional ensemble’s program will include numbers such as “Top Gun Anthem” and music from the video game Star Fox 64. The event will include food trucks and enough military nostalgia to fill a barracks or two. Plus, the Indiana National Guard howitzers are returning to provide their booming concert thunder. Information: thecip.org.

* Hoosier native Henry Lee Summer has been a favorite of area audiences for years. You can see firsthand why when he performs at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Brown County Playhouse, 70 S. Van Buren St. in Nashville. He is so down-to-earth that, during his peak MTV years in the 1980s with hits such as “Hands On the Radio” and “I Wish I Had a Girl,” he pulled up in his van at a gig at Kentucky Kingdom in Louisville, Kentucky, where a friend of mine worked with various acts. He then happily proceeded to unload his own equipment and handle set up himself. Information and tickets: browncountyplayhouse.org.

* Holiday weekends at Cera Sports Park and Campground always feature plenty of outdoor, family-oriented activities: camping, swimming, live music, go karts and more at the facility at 3989 S. County Road 525E southeast of Columbus. See for yourself at: ceraland.org.
