COLUMBUS
Robert “Bob” Barkhimer, 86, of Columbus, died at 6:50 p.m. Saturday, June 1, 2024 at Columbus Regional Hospital.
Bob was born August 17, 1937, in Columbus the son of Lynn Phillip Barkhimer and Margaret Louise Thompson. He married Karen Marie Chapman on June 1, 1958.
Bob graduated from Columbus High School in 1955. He worked at Cummins Engine Company during the early 60’s as a draftsman and later in life retired from BKM as the Vice President of Engineering. He was a member of First Christian Church, it was there, he married his bride 66 years ago. Bob was a loving family man and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Calling hours will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 6, 2024 at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home. Burial will be private at a later date with Rev. Michael Chapman officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church of Columbus through the funeral home or your favorite charity.
Survivors include his wife, Karen; children, Jeffrey Lynn Barkhimer of San Diego, CA., Beth Anne (Michael) Schaldach of New Market, TN., and Brian (Debz) Barkhimer of Winston Salem, NC.; grandchildren, Christopher Schaldach, Rachael Schaldach, Demetria (Timothy) Platz, Jacob (Tyler) Barkhimer, Trevor (Zhanelle) Barkhimer, Joshua (Jordan) Barkhimer, Annalynn Barkhimer and Makinley Barkhimer; along with 8 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Lynn and Margaret Thompson.
