Theile seeks BCSC school board seat

David Theile

A local finance and accounting executive has filed to run for a Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. School Board seat in this fall’s general election.

David Theile has filed paperwork to run for the BCSC School Board District 3 seat, setting up a competitive race for the seat this fall, according to records with the Bartholomew County Clerk’s Office.

Turning Point Domestic Violence Services President Whittney Loyd previously filed to run for the seat. The District 3 seat is currently held by Todd Grimes, who is not seeking reelection.

Theile, who described himself as a Christian and is currently branch finance manager at AVI Systems Inc. in Columbus, said he decided to run to “ensure fiscal responsibility” on the BCSC school board.

“I would like to utilize my strengths and education in finance and accounting to ensure fiscal responsibility in our school board,” Theile said. “I am passionate about using my leadership and heart to serve others to positively impact student’s lives, increase parent involvement and support the hard work of teachers in Bartholomew County School Corp.”

Three BCSC School Board seats are up for election this fall, including the District 3, 5 and 7 seats.

District 7 incumbent and current school board president Nicole Wheeldon is seeking reelection and will face challenger Samantha Ison for the seat.

Tom Glick and Leigh W. Britt have filed to run for the District 5 seat. Pat Bryant currently holds the seat but is not seeking reelection.

The Flat Rock-Hawcreek School Board seats held by Matt Bruner and Brian Rose also are open for filing.

The filing period ends June 20, according to the Bartholomew County Clerk’s Office. People who are interested in running for a school board seat must file a petition of nomination with 10 signatures of registered voters.

For the BCSC School Board, the signatures can come from any registered voter in the BCSC school district, while for Flat Rock-Haw Creek, the signatures must come from registered voters in the school board district in which the candidate is running, according to Bartholomew County Clerk Shari Lentz.
