Letter: What’s humane about leaving cats abandoned?

From: Margaret Fouts

Columbus

On the morning of June 7, animal control picked up an abandoned cat in my neighborhood. I had trapped the cat so it would be easier for them to do their job. I was informed they would check the cat, get it healthy and probably return it to the area, which I thought was not only cruel, but exactly what happened to the animal in the first place.

It has been sighted not even 10 hours from time of pickup, but I think putting the animal down would be much more humane than making it fend for itself. I’m sick of finding half-eaten birds, dead or dying because this cat is hungry. I already have three pets, one of which was abandoned, and I cannot afford to feed another. I can’t believe this town can’t come up with a better solution.

Show some compassion. Just give them the shot. It’s painless and peaceful. No animal should have to live this way. Shame on animal control and the so-called humane society. Nothing humane about it.
