Looking Back – June 14

2014

The highest single-day attendance at the Atterbury-Bakalar Air Museum was set on Columbus Municipal Airport’s Aviation Day, with about 3,800 visitors. The air traffic control tower staff documented 834 takeoffs and landings, exceeding the previous record of 530 set in 2013.

1999

Columbus Regional Hospital held its first Preemie Reunion Picnic at the hospital to celebrate the life of premature babies. The free picnic was for children ages 3 and under who were special care preemies and their families.

1974

Carl J. Weinhardt, director of the Indianapolis Museum of Art, said that Chaos I may be “the most significant piece of sculpture of the second half of the 20th century.” Weinhardt visited Columbus several times to observe the progress of Chaos I, and again after its completion.
